Fertility Massage
There can be a lot of reasons why people have trouble getting or staying pregnant. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution for fertility trouble, but massage is a tool that can be helpful for a lot of people who are trying to conceive. We employ relaxation techniques to help alleviate stress, use circulatory techniques designed to bring blood to the reproductive organs, and apply reflexology and acupressure to bring a balance of eastern and western modalities. Timing is everything when it comes to fertility massage, and regular sessions are recommended for the best results. We recommend booking your first session during the menstrual or follicular phases of you cycle (before ovulation). If you are unsure of when you should schedule your first session, please contact us for further guidance.
Prenatal Massage
Prenatal massage is a session that is designed for some of the unique changes of pregnancy. We have a bolster system that will allow you to lie comfortably on your side, and a table that can adjust to a reclined position once it is no longer safe to lie on your back. Clinical studies have shown that prenatal massage can help to
Reduce stress
Reduce swelling
Reduce pain
Promote relaxation
Facilitate hormonal, respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary, and other physiological processes
Contribute to increased flexibility
Increase kinesthetic awareness needed for labor
Foster nurturing maternal touch and healthy bonding
And more!
We recommend arriving 15 minutes early if you are coming in for your first prenatal massage with us, and 5-10 minutes early if you have already been here for prenatal massage with this pregnancy.
If you have a complicated or high-risk pregnancy, please record the circumstances in the notes section when you book as some conditions require a signed release from your primary care provider.
Labor Massage
Labor massage is for women who are in, or are ready to be in labor. If you are in labor, massage can help to relax you and help you to develop a good routine for working with your contractions. It can also help to increase the frequency of your contractions if you are trying to progress. If you are not in labor yet, but are ready to be, the use of aromatherapy and acupressure in your massage can help to stimulate uterine contractions and get things moving.
Labor massage is only available to clients who are at least 39 weeks pregnant. If you schedule a labor massage and are earlier in your pregnancy, it will be changed to a prenatal massage.
*Disclaimer: Induction and augmentation massage is not guaranteed to work. Inductions only work if your body and your baby are ready. During your labor induction massage, you will learn the locations of the acupressure points, how to stimulate them, and will be sent home with a handout including all of the points and suggestions for aromatherapy.
Postpartum Massage
If you have given birth within the last 6 months, this option is for you! The term postpartum refers to the period of time after labor and delivery. Massage during this time can be helpful in:
Shortening recovery time from labor and birth (both vaginal and Cesarean)
Decreasing symptoms of postpartum depression
Allowing for smoother emotional adjustment
Realigning your spine and pelvis
Reducing pain
Rehabilitating abdominal skin, muscles, and organs
And more!
Postpartum massage can be done in side-lying if you are not yet comfortable lying face down
